It's summer time, and we're loving bright & bold colours. What we don't love, however, is when the colour in our most-loved garments fades. If you want your colours to last, follow these easy-care tips.
ALWAYS READ THE LABEL
Firstly, take a few seconds to read the care instructions on the label. It's there for a reason! Following the instructions on water temperature, drying & drycleaning will help ensure the colour in your garment lasts.
SORT YOUR WASHING
Always sort your laundry so you are washing like colours. Keep your colours together, as well as as whites and darks separate. If you have a large enough load, sort your clothes by colour similarity to further prevent colour fade.
KEEP IT GENTLE
If you want the colour in your clothes to last, avoid very hot water and harsh detergents in your laundry. Use the washer's gentlest cycle to keep clothes from rubbing together and wearing out.
Adding vinegar to the load with stop the aggressive action of water lifting colour from your clothes, helping to set the colour.
If all else fails, use detergents specially formulated for coloured clothes.
TURN CLOTHES INSIDE OUT
Washing and drying is rough on the outside of your clothing, so turning your clothes inside out will reduce the stress on the exposed fibres.
When drying your clothes, keep them turned inside out to reduce exposure to the sun ray's, decreasing the chance of fading taking place.
DON'T OVER DRY
Air drying is always best, but if you must machine dry beware of overdrying as this causes colours to fade fast. Set a timer and don't forget about your clothes. Clothes should be slightly damp when they are pulled from the dryer.
If you're wary about losing colour in your favourite garments by washing at home, let elaundry help. We use gentle products in our machines and follow all care instructions to ensure your garments stand the test of time.
