Garment Alert: How to Clean Silk


Cleaning silk isnt as scary as it first may seem, the soft and luxe garments generally need dry cleaning attention however if the care label does not specify dry clean only why not clean yourself. If time is not on your hands bring it into one of two elaundry stores!

If you have yourself a light wieght silk it is best to hand wash in a tub of cool water with a mild detergent such as Eco Store concentrated laundry wash. Rinse the garment several times do not ring out silk as the fibres within the fabric are delicate best to dry flat inside or under cover.

If silk garments are mis handeled the garment can look dull loosing its sheen. A garment can be restored by adding a forth of a cup of white vinegar to three litres of warm water, mix the solution well together soak garment, move the garment to a clean tub of water and rinse several times, again do not wring garment dry lay flat and dry under cover.
